Denny Schmickle

Denny Schmickle // 02.21.19 (Third Thursday)

Denny Schmickle is an artist, designer, and educator. His current studio work is focused on how decoration, ornamentation & pattern intersect with concepts of culture & identity. Denny creates hand-printed silkscreen concert posters for local & international touring bands that have been featured in a number of exhibitions and publications.

Schmickle has a Bachelor’s Degree from The College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri & MFA from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He recently represented the state of Oklahoma in the Four by Four 2014: Midwest Invitational at the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri. One artist was selected from Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Denny installed hand-printed wallpapers, as well as furniture with custom upholstery, featuring patterns designed to subvert common understanding of ornamental design.

Tulsa Transit partnered with a local advertising agency to sponsor a bus covered with art in 2015 for an initiative called Art In Transit Tulsa. Denny’s submission, “Visual Overload,” was chosen & is currently rolling around Tulsa. Denny is now teaching at Lindenwood University as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design.

Show up early for social hour and screen print your own Schmickle poster.
